Research Turkey Public Conference with Dr. Behlül Özkan: “Beyond “Strategic Depth”: Islamism, Turkey’s Foreign Policy and the Arab Spring”

Date:

We are pleased to announce Centre for Policy and Research on Turkey (Research Turkey) and LSE Middle East Centre’s public conference entitled “Beyond “Strategic Depth”: Islamism, Turkey’s Foreign Policy and the Arab Spring” in which Dr. Behlül Özkan will give a talk. This event will take place on Thursday, 7 November 2013 between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Room 2.04, New Academic Building, LSE, 54 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, WC2A 3LJ, London.

The central argument of Dr Özkan’s topic is rather than following Neo-Ottomanist path, Turkey’s foreign policy shifted towards Islamism since AKP came to power in 2002. The lecture seeks to analyse theoretical and ideological sources of Ahmet Davutoğlu’s Islamist foreign policy approach and how the Arab Spring affected Turkish foreign policy toward the Middle East.

Behlül Özkan completed his PhD at Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 2009. His book “From the Abode of Islam to the Turkish Vatan” was published by Yale University Press in 2012. Currently he is teaching at Marmara University at the Department of Political Science and International Relations.

It is a public event open to all with no ticket required.
